

Council Meeting 7th June, 2008
Council decided to
1. Shield: Order more shields for sale which will retail for £30.00. 2.Flag/Standard. Order bunting – alternating red and gold triangles. To paint a banner in the manner of Lochiel’s standard at Culloden for use at the 2009 Gathering and to present this thereafter to NTS Culloden. Order 5 standards – two for England and three for the Scotland 3. President’s Badge: commission Caroline Temple to produce a President’s Badge in layered silver with a glass enamelled finish on the shield all for £620.00. A deposit of 40% ie £248.00 required. 4. France October 2008: Information about event in Bergues in October.To date the following had shown interest: Alan & Elizabeth, Col Charles and Felicia, Barry and Janet and Roddy. Hoped Donald Andrew would attend. The share by CCAS of the shield was £200.00 Lochiel pledged £200.00. It was agreed that the correct feature on the plaque should be the 5 arrows surmounting the wreath all on top of the banded shield. This should have the single word “unite” below or above the “arms”. The Council were also unhappy with the term adjutant and felt that the central role of Lochiel should be given greater emphasis. 5. International Gathering Disquiet amongst the Highland Clans that the event was seen as a money spinner for the Edinburgh Tourist Board and that they deplored the lack of consultation. No gold passports left. 10 silver passports had been reserved for Clan Cameron. 6. Mod 08: The National Mod was to be held in Falkirk in October 2008. The Association agreed to have a stall at the Mod and to hold the AGM in the Falkirk area on Saturday 18th October at 2.00. Alan conveyed the excessively high prices quoted for The Falkirk Wheel, and Callendar House and suggested Boness Town Hall 7. Benchmarking: Duncan had approached the Stewarts and MacLeods. He would go round the stalls at the Inverness Games with his questionnaire. It was also suggested that we exchange newsletters with the other clans. 8. Achnacarry 09: Alan reported that there had been no further meeting and that the next meeting would be within the next month. 9. Culloden 08: The event was very successful and highlighted with the excellent talk by Peter Pininski on his Stuart and Cameron roots. Peter has agreed to do an article for the newsletter on the basis of his talk. The Cawdor Tavern had served excellent fare and was a most suitable venue. It had been provisionally booked for 2009.

Year of Homecoming 2009: Draft programme discussed. Ceilidh would be the responsibility of the Lochiel family.. Clan Reception would be hosted by the CCAS. It was emphasised that this would be free.
Newsletter Autumn 08. With reference to the article on the Lochiel Memorial, 2009 was the centenary of its unveiling. Bill had spoken to a local councillor re the cleaning of the stone. First Light: Robert Nairn who was currently a student at the School of Traditional Music would be going to New Zealand in the summer of 2008 to research music and agriculture. VPs: reported in activities in their areas
Finances. The balance at May 31st 2008 was £3763.99. It was pointed out that there was £280.00 in the President’s Badge fund. Date of next Meeting : 18th October, 2008 in Falkirk
